My first book cover as an illustrator,
her first novel as a writer
On October 30, 2023, I had an appointment at the Léo Scheer publishing house in Paris, to design the book cover illustration of a novel by Leslie Gogois. The manuscrit is set against the backdrop of the Parisian culinary world, It’s right up my alley !
Design a book cover was one of my dream project.
Leslie Gogois, the author, is a passionate foodie, and as a graphic designer specialized in F&B, it could only be a great fit !
She written over 50 cookbooks and has worked with numerous chefs and pastry chefs. For over a decade, she’s also been a journalist for Yam magazine, dedicated to gastronomy.
Today, Leslie Gogois is releasing her first novel, a diary-style narrative of a Parisian woman, a mother of two, who, following the upheaval of a breakup, recounts the ups and downs of her personal and professional life as a food critic. 💓
Graphic concept
of the book cover
To illustrate this book cover, Angie David & Leslie weren’t afraid to embrace the girly style; indeed we embraced it.
in order to create the book cover illustration, I chose to work with bold pink hues as a color palette.
My goal was to create a strong, visible, and legible image that brings together the two themes of the book: love stories and food.
Indeed, that’s the strength of this novel compared to other romance novels. Its culinary backdrop can pique the reader’s curiosity when browsing in the bookstore.
As a nod to the author, who is an unconditional fan of hearts, I drew a little bunch of heart motifs that are almost like suitors for the heroine. 🤫
Regarding the choice of typography, I picked something sharp that would bring a certain nobility and elegance to the design.

my client’s words
« What a wonderful collaboration with Marine Dion for the creation of the illustrated cover of the novel ‘Amour, saignant ou à point’ by our author Leslie Gogois.
Since it’s a novel revolving around the world of cuisine, Marine’s experience in this field was invaluable, and we also needed her to bring her girly and sexy touch to it.
On a personal level, it was as enjoyable as it was successful artistically. »
